Making a claim

We want to make this difficult time more manageable for all concerned. While your claim will be executed as quickly and efficiently as possible, it's important you be aware of administrative requirements surrounding the policy.

How long does it take Aviva to pay?

For lump sum policies, we generally pay claims within three months from the date we receive your complete documentation. Complicated claims may take longer. For income protection policies, it will depend on the waiting period you have nominated at the time of signing up for your policy.

Aviva prides itself on its claim history. If your claim is genuine and your documentation correct, we'll do our very best to honour your policy and ensure that it's easy for you and your family.

What do I need to send in?

This will depend on the policy you have and the type of claim you are making.

Do I need to go through my adviser?

Yes, you will need to notify your adviser that you are making a claim. They can help you through the process and answer any questions you have regarding making a claim.

How do I submit a claim?

Once you have all the required documentation, submit your claim immediately. Your Aviva Claims Consultant will be only too pleased to help in answering any questions you may have about the claim and your entitlements under the policy.

Will I have to pay tax?

The payment of the benefit may also be subject to tax. Normally, you are liable to pay tax out of the amount Aviva pays you. However, this may differ if the policy is held within a superannuation fund. Please speak to your tax adviser regarding this.

Will my application be private?

By providing us with information during the course of your claim, you understand that any personal information we may collect about you in the normal course of our business may be used in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Our Policy, which is designed to protect your interests, and is consistent with the requirements of the Privacy Act, which can be obtained here.
